The G.R.I.T. Study

Getting global Rare disease Insights through Technology: A global clinical trial for patients with rare metabolic disorders

What is the GRIT Study?

The G.R.I.T. Study is the first global app-based registered clinical trial for patients with metabolic disorders. It uses a mobile health journal, Zamplo, to record patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in patients with metabolic disorders.www.zamplo.org/

Rare diseases are understudied, leading to a shortage of patient health data. This negatively impacts clinical decision-making as it relies on the collection of sufficient patient health data.

The M.A.G.I.C. Clinic and Zamplo have come together to solve this problem through the G.R.I.T. Study.

What does the study involve?

You will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: the “App Group” or the “Placebo Group"

App Group

You will be given access to an app called Zamplo which will help you manage your condition in the following ways:

BE MORE ORGANIZED

Keep all your labs, documents, and medical reports in one place
Picture
MANAGE YOUR SYMPTOMS

Track symptoms over time and get insight into your triggers
Picture
COMMUNICATE EASILY

Record your questions and be ready for your next appointment

Placebo Group

You will not receive the app for the study, but don't worry! You will be given access to the app once your study participation is complete (12 months).

In the meantime, you will manage your metabolic disorder as you usually would without the Zamplo application.

A control group is vital to a clinical studies success: They provide us with a comparison group to evaluate if the app is effective in the current treatment and care for rare disease patients.

We will also learn how effective the current health system is in supporting patients living with rare diseases.
You will be assessed at 4 points: baseline, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months. During each assessment, you will be given two surveys with questionnaires.

As a participant of the GRIT study, you will own your data and can continue using the Zamplo app after study completion.
You can review the data privacy policy of the app using this link.
For more general information about the app, please visit Zamplo’s website.
